Law firms

Ask Copilot or ChatGPT about a case and get an answer from the firm's own pleadings, orders and correspondence, cited to the page, with ethical walls kept.

Built around matters and cases

OnwardAI knows that a firm's documents belong to matters, that matters must be kept apart, and that an answer is only as good as its citation.

What did the settlement require in each case?

Smith v. Jones

Jones pays $18,000 in back rent in three monthly payments and repairs the loading dock by June 30.

Settlement agreement, p. 3

Hale v. Ortiz

Ortiz pays $42,500 in two instalments through an escrow agent; the first is released on April 1.

Settlement memorandum, p. 1

Brown v. Green

Nothing in this case's documents mentions a settlement.

An example. Each case answers only from its own documents.
  • A case in date order

Ask for a case and get its documents from the complaint to the final order, with dates read from the documents themselves, or a detailed outline of what happened.

  • Compare cases side by side

Ask one question of two to six cases at once. Each case answers only from its own documents, and a case with nothing on the question says so instead of borrowing from another.

  • Cited to the page

Answers point to the document and the page or slide: "Final Judgment, p. 4", "pp. 4–5".

  • Ethical walls by Microsoft group

Decide who may see each matter by Microsoft 365 group or by person. Everyone else never sees it: not in search, not in case lists, not in comparisons.

  • Clio and on-premises ProLaw

Matters arrive as case folders from Clio Manage, or from ProLaw on your own servers through the ProLaw Connector.

  • Your firm first, the web second

Answers come from your catalog. Looking things up on the web is a setting you choose, and comes after your own documents.

Your practice management system, as case folders

Clio

Sign in with Clio once. Each matter you choose appears as a folder named by its number and description ("00012 Smith v. Jones"), with its document folders inside. New and edited documents arrive within minutes. Clio in the United States, Canada, Europe and Australia is supported.

ProLaw on your own servers

The ProLaw Connector is a small Windows service installed inside your network. It reads your matters and their documents from the ProLaw database and document folder, reads each document's text there, and sends only the text. Each matter becomes a case folder, with a folder for each document class.

  • Read-only access to three ProLaw tables and the document folder
  • Outbound HTTPS only: no firewall openings or DNS records
  • Checks every five minutes for new, changed and deleted documents
  • Reads scans, Outlook messages and older Word files

Your documents stay yours

Built for firms that answer to clients, regulators and bar rules.

  • Files are never stored

The Catalog Server reads documents where they are and keeps only their text, in memory. Nothing is written to its disk; remove a folder and its text is gone.

  • Only text leaves your network

The ProLaw Connector reads documents inside your network and sends just their text, over HTTPS, signed with a key that belongs to your firm alone.

  • Every client kept apart

Each firm has its own catalog, its own connection to the server and its own index. One firm's question can never reach another firm's documents.
